I tried a few samples of the citrus flavor of the Amino Energy product that I received from Optimum Nutrition. To better notice the results, I consumed this product over a 3-week weight training workout period.. Normally I don’t buy or try free samples nor consume these types of energy dietary supplements because of the amount of caffeine in them. It's primarily because I like to enjoy a cup or 2 of coffee every day, so I feel there is enough caffeine in my daily coffee consumption, therefor I don’t need more. But for this brief period, just on my workout days and since I had these free product packet samples, I decided to give it a try.
You’re supposed to take it either pre-workout or post-workout but I used it during my workout. Going to drink water anyway during my workouts, why not mix in some Amino Energy product. I mixed 1/2 of the package (about 50 mg of caffeine in 1/2 a package) in my water bottle and drank it during my workout. The citrus flavor was very good but it sometimes had an after-taste, possibly because it may not have completely dissolved in the cold water even though I shook the bottle many times.
Although I did not notice a gain in energy from the product during my weight training workouts, probably because I was drinking it during my workout and there was not enough time for proper absorption in my body, I did notice more muscle recovery and my muscles felt more pumped, bigger after this period of consumption. Most likely because the micronized amino acids were absorbed faster by my body. The product package indicates that it contains micronized free form amino acids for faster absorption. Of course, I still consumed my usual 1 scoop of protein powder with creatine after my workout.
So if you don’t mind the caffeine in this product, Amino Energy from Optimum Nutrition, or you don’t drink your daily cup of tea or coffee, you may want to give this product a try and see how it works for you.
